Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan joins LinkedIn podcast

In a recent episode of LinkedIn’s “This Is Working” podcast, CEO Brian Moynihan joined LinkedIn Editor in Chief Dan Roth for a discussion focused on technology, specifically artificial intelligence (AI). In the conversation, Brian shared how Bank of America follows a process to implement innovative ideas, why AI will augment — not replace — workers and why curiosity is so important for employees.

Brian reflected on the launch of Erica^®, Bank of America’s virtual financial assistant, and the work required to ensure the data was correct, the process could be understood and that the tool was able to give clients the right answers.

“You had to come at it saying, ‘The customer wants this question answered. [It’s] got to be perfect,’” Brian said. He continued talking about finding the balance of making new technology available: “You have to be able to lead the customer there, but not get ahead of them, and you have to have the operating complexity bandwidth” to cover business needs.

In closing the interview, Brian highlighted the importance of curiosity for professional development, including around learning to work with AI.

“I always am looking for people that run to the heat of the fire, try to figure out the answer, [are] curious about the possibilities, and wake up tomorrow and they’ve tried to learn more than they knew yesterday.”
